POSITION OVERVIEW

A locum tenens opportunity is available for a Physician Assistant experienced in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Lexington, Kentucky.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in first assisting with major cardiothoracic procedures and comfortable providing support in the operating room, telemetry, and ICU settings.


CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

First assist in CABG, AVR, MVR, thoracotomy, and lung resection cases

Cardiothoracic surgical procedures

Vein harvesting

Chest tube placement

Inpatient rounding

Telemetry and ICU duties

OR support

Patient evaluation and clinical management

Night and weekend call coverage


SCHEDULE & CALL

Weekday day shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Weekday night call: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Approximately 1–2 call days per week

Approximately 1 weekend per month

Weekend coverage: 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM

Weekend responsibilities include inpatient rounds, procedures, and surgery

PRN coverage primarily for vacations and staffing needs

REQUIREMENTS

Certified Physician Assistant

Board Certified

Strong cardiothoracic surgery experience

Proficient in first assisting with CABG, AVR, MVR, and thoracotomy/lung resection

Ability to perform required procedures

ACLS required

BLS required

DEA required

Kentucky license highly preferred; candidates willing to obtain a Kentucky license may be considered

Clean malpractice history preferred

Must be credentialable at the practice site


ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Location: Lexington, KY
Setting: Inpatient / Operating Room
Patient Volume: Approximately 1–2 surgeries per day
EMR: Epic
FTE: PRN
Credentialing: Approximately 90–110 days
