Trauma Service APP (PA/NP) – Locum Opportunity Summary

Position: Trauma Service Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP)
Start: Urgent need – Immediate coverage
Setting: Level II Trauma Center
Schedule: PM Shift (3:00 PM – 1:00 AM)

Oct 18–21

Role Overview:
Seeking an experienced Trauma/Critical Care APP to provide coverage on the Trauma Service. Provider will support the trauma surgeon on call and manage trauma patients, including assessments, treatment plans, procedures, patient education, admissions, discharges, and coordination of care.

Responsibilities:

Perform patient histories, physical exams, assessments, and treatment planning
Manage trauma patients throughout hospitalization
Order and interpret labs, imaging, therapies, and treatments
Perform procedures including laceration repair, wound care, chest tube management, central lines, arterial lines, fracture management, and other trauma procedures
Assist with admissions, documentation, referrals, and discharge planning
Provide patient and family education

Patient Volume:

Trauma Service census: approximately 20–25 ICU patients per provider daily
Few to no pediatric trauma patients
Support one trauma surgeon on call
One additional Trauma APP covers day shift (7 AM–5 PM)

Requirements:

PA or NP with Trauma/Critical Care experience
Active California license
NPs must have CA NP furnishing number
PAs must complete CA Controlled Substance Education Course (CSEC)
NCCPA or ANCC Certification
Active BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and DEA
Must be actively working at a TJC-accredited hospital
Clean malpractice/background preferred
Local candidates preferred

EMR: Cerner Care B

Credentialing: Approximately 15–30 days after receipt of completed application

Travel: Preferred lodging available; local providers preferred.
