**Position Title:** Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner – Surgery Trauma (Locum Tenens)
We are seeking a skilled, board-certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician assistant specializing in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery for an ongoing locum tenens coverage opportunity due to practice growth. The role requires ongoing coverage of 1 to 2 weeks per month through 2027.

### **Position Overview**
PeaceHealth Saint Joseph Medical Center is seeking qualified Physician Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) specializing in Acute Care Surgery and Trauma to join our team in Bellingham, WA. Operating within a high-volume Trauma Level II inpatient and outpatient setting (251 beds), the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive care across the trauma and surgical service line.

### **Key Responsibilities & Scope of Practice**
* **Trauma & Emergency Response:** Serve as an initial responder in the Emergency Department for trauma alerts, acting as first response when the trauma surgeon is in the operating room.
* **Patient Admissions & Inpatient Management:** Admit patients across the service line, including general acute surgical beds and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Perform daily rounding and patient management (average 18 patients/day).
* **Surgical Support:** Provide surgical assistance during trauma and acute care surgery procedures.
* **Outpatient Clinic Operations:** Prepare for, run, and manage post-discharge trauma clinics 2 days per week (Wednesday/Thursday, 09:30–16:30).
* **Interdisciplinary Collaboration:**
Work alongside a multidisciplinary team including trauma surgeons, APC colleagues, and on-site diabetic educators.

### **Job Qualifications & Requirements**
#### **Education & Credentials**
* **Physician Assistant (PA):** Graduate of an accredited PA program; NCCPA certification required.
* **Nurse Practitioner (NP):** Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited program; Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP or ACNP) strongly preferred due to ICU and trauma responsibilities.
* **State License:** Active Washington State License (willingness to obtain WA licensure considered).
#### **Required Certifications**
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) *(AHA or ARC required)*
* Basic Life Support (BLS) *(AHA or ARC required)*
* Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) *(Required)*
**Experience & Clinical Background**
* **Clinical Case Logs:** Must provide documentation of clinical activity representative of the scope and complexity of privileges requested within the past 24 months (waived for recent graduates within 12 months).
* **EMR Proficiency:** Proficiency in **Epic** EMR is required.
* **Immunization Requirements:** Mandatory COVID-19
vaccination (facility guideline; no exemptions permitted). Flu vaccine required based on seasonal facility guidelines.
