LOCUM TENENS TRAUMA SURGERY APP (NP/PA)

Day Shifts | In-House Coverage
Level I Adult Trauma Center (Cares for Pediatrics)



POSITION OVERVIEW

A Level I trauma center is seeking two experienced Advanced Practice Providers (NP/PA) for locum tenens coverage to support trauma surgery services. The APP will primarily function as a trauma hospitalist rounder, with additional responsibilities including trauma activations, emergency department consults, admissions, and procedural support. This is an in-house role with no call responsibilities.

Shift Schedule: 10-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Dates of Coverage: May – July (up to full-time availability)

Number of Providers Needed: 2

Call Requirements: None (in-house only)


PRACTICE SETTING & CLINICAL ROLE

Primarily functions as a trauma hospitalist rounding provider

Intermittent ED consults, trauma activations, and procedural responsibilities

May support trauma critical care and surgical needs based on experience

No hospitalist service utilized; APP must manage all patient conditions independently

Works autonomously with 24/7 Trauma Surgeon coverage available for supervision and backup


PATIENT VOLUME & DEMOGRAPHICS

Daily Census:

10–14 admitted non-ICU patients

~6 ICU patients

Admissions / ED Consults: 2–15 per 24-hour period

Patient Age Range: 0–100+ (primarily adult and adolescent)


PROCEDURAL SKILLS (PREFERRED)

These procedures are preferred but not all required:

Non-invasive ventilation management (BiPAP / CPAP)

Ventilator management

Chest tube insertion

Central line placement

Arterial line placement

Suturing minor lacerations

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Responding to ED trauma alerts

Trauma activations and ER admissions

Daily rounding and comprehensive patient management

Facilitating patient discharges

Performing procedures as clinically indicated

Adhering to departmental guidelines and non-clinical tracking expectations


SUPPORT & SUPERVISION

Supervising Physician: Trauma Surgeon on-site 24/7

Specialty Backup: Trauma Surgeon available for all procedures

EMR: Epic


TRAVEL & EXPENSES

Local providers preferred

Mileage reimbursement only

Credentialing and application fees are not reimbursed


CREDENTIALING

Emergency / Temporary Privileges: Not available


REQUIREMENTS (NO EXCEPTIONS)

Board Certified ACNP, AGNP, or PA-C – Required

Active Minnesota license at time of name clear – Required

ATLS, ACLS, and PALS – Required

Minimum 1 year of inpatient APP experience (trauma, ICU, and/or orthopedics strongly preferred) – Required

DEA – verbal confirmation at time of name clear – Required

Self-query NPDB report (pulled within the same month as submission) – Required

Local candidate – Preferred
