Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery NP/PA Opportunity in San Francisco- ECMO experience required

Contract Length: 6 months
Shift: 6A-6:30P or 6P-6:30A
Schedule: 3/12hr shifts/week. Min 2 wknd shifts/months & 5-6 night shifts/month

Department Description:
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team provides comprehensive care to post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients in both the CTICU and Acute Care Floor settings. The APP will manage patients who have undergone a full spectrum of cardiac and thoracic procedures, including heart transplantation and those requiring mechanical circulatory support such as VA ECMO, Impella, and IABP.
The provider will be the first responder to CTS patient pages, conduct daily rounds with CTS Fellows and Attendings, the Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant team, and ICU staff. A high degree of autonomy is required, with the ability to rapidly recognize and respond to changes in patient condition and manage critically ill patients effectively.

The APP will collaborate closely with physicians, surgeons, fellows, other APPs, and interdisciplinary staff to deliver efficient, evidence-based care. Responsibilities include:
• Conducting histories and physical examinations
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies
• Initiating treatments within scope of privileges and standardized procedures
• Participating in perioperative planning and coordination
• Managing discharges, transfers, prescriptions, referrals, and consults
• Performing admissions and new consults
• Removing chest tubes, pacing wires, IABPs, and arterial sheaths
• Educating patients and families, arranging follow-ups

All clinical privileges are subject to demonstrated competency through the proctoring and FPPE process. Approved procedures and independent practice capabilities are tracked via the ECHO system, and procedural logs are maintained through the e-log platform.

Practice Setting: Inpatient hospital-based

Requirements:
• Board Certification: Required
• Degree: Master's required for PAs
• Licensure: Active California license (Willing to license for PAs; not for NPs)
• DEA License: Required
• Certifications: AHA ACLS and BLS required

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery, including independent management of CTS patients in the critical care setting. ECMO experience is required. Additional background in transplantation, critical care, cardiology, or acute care is strongly preferred.
