Government Vascular Surgery Opportunity in Pennsylvania

Job description

The Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center is seeking a Board-Certified Vascular Surgeon for a long-term locum tenens opportunity supporting veteran patient care.

Assignment Details:
Location: Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center – Wilkes-Barre, PA
Practice Setting: Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Reason for Coverage: Provider vacancy
Contract Term: Base Period of Performance (POP) from September 30, 2026 – September 29, 2027, with four option years
Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 60 days
Vaccination Requirements: Flu vaccine required; COVID vaccine not required

Schedule
Clinic & OR Hours:
Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
OR team hours: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Call Coverage:
Weeknight Call: 4:30 PM – 8:00 AM (15.5-hour shifts)
Approximately 41 shifts annually
Weekend Call: Friday 4:30 PM – Monday 8:00 AM (63.5-hour shifts)
Approximately 9 weekend shifts annually

Responsibilities:
The provider will spend approximately 95% of their time in direct patient care, delivering comprehensive vascular surgical services, including:

Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of vascular disorders
Pre-operative, operative, and post-operative patient management
Inpatient and outpatient vascular surgery care
Trauma management and continuity of care from admission through discharge
Surgical oncology and endocrine-related surgical care within scope of practice
Consultation services for referring providers
Daily review of consults and next-day surgical cases
Post-procedure follow-up and management of complications
Patient and family education, discharge planning, and care coordination
Collaboration with nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications:
Board Certification in Vascular Surgery required
Active, unrestricted U.S. medical license accepted (any state)
BLS and ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association)
Must be eligible for VA credentialing and privileging

Additional Information:
EMR: CPARS
Approximately 5% administrative duties, including required education and service-level meetings
Long-term assignment with potential for multiple years of coverage
