Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant – South Carolina
Full-Time | Hospital-Based | Adult Patient Population Only
A leading cardiothoracic surgery team in South Carolina is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join their team. This is a full-time opportunity for a skilled provider to first assist on open heart cases and manage critical care responsibilities in a high-acuity setting.
Position Details:
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:00 PM
• Call: Light weekday (5%), heavier weekends (75%) – primarily ER call
• Caseload: ~10 patients/day (5 admissions, 5 ICU, 4 surgeries)
• Setting: 90% hospital, 10% clinic
• Support: Work alongside 4 cardiothoracic surgeons and 7 advanced practice providers
• EMR: Epic (test-out available or virtual training prior to start)
Responsibilities:
• First assist on all open heart surgeries
• Vein harvesting (open and/or endoscopic)
• Suturing, rounding, admissions
• Pre- and post-operative surgical care
Requirements:
• Board Certified PA-C
• Minimum 2 years of post-training cardiothoracic surgical experience
• Must be able to function independently in the OR
• Active South Carolina license REQUIRED for faster onboarding
○ SC Licensed: Credentialing ~4 months
○ Not SC Licensed: Credentialing ~5–6 months
