Locums – Neurocritical Care – APP (NP/PA) – Louisiana

Start Date: April 13, 2026

Shift Type: Nights

Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Coverage Need: 12–16 shifts per month

Block scheduling preferred

Call: None

Practice Setting

Unit: Neuro ICU (closed unit)

Patient Population: Adult patients with primary neurologic diagnoses

Hospital Size: 420 beds

EMR: Epic

Team & Support

Neurointensivist support (daily formal rounds and overnight phone availability)

In-house APP coverage 24/7

Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, and additional APP support

Clinical Responsibilities

Admission, management, and discharge of critically ill neuro patients

Comprehensive ICU care including ventilator and hemodynamic management

Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice

Participate in multidisciplinary rounds

Document H&Ps, consults, progress notes, and discharge summaries

Manage neurologic emergencies and complex post-operative neurosurgical patients

Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing, and ancillary teams

Required Skills & Experience

Strong neurocritical care knowledge including stroke, hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, seizures, neuromuscular respiratory failure, and post-neurosurgical care

Mechanical ventilation and noninvasive ventilation management

Critical care sedation and analgesia management

Familiarity with neurologic exams, neuroimaging, and EEG basics

Ability to recognize and manage acute neurologic deterioration

Preferred Procedures

Central line placement

Arterial line placement

Lumbar puncture

Participation in stroke and hemorrhage care pathways

Requirements

Board Certified NP (Acute Care or Adult-Gero Acute Care) or PA

Active state license

DEA and CSR required

BLS, ACLS, and ENLS certifications

Minimum one year of critical care experience (neurocritical care strongly preferred)

Credentialing

Estimated credentialing timeframe: approximately 60 days
