Job description

Neuro ICU Physician Assistant Needed in New Orleans, LA
Start Date: As soon as credentialed
Credentialing timeframe: ~60 days
Contract Length: Ongoing contract (Locum Tenens – 1099)

Schedule

Night shifts only
12‑hour shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Coverage needed: 12–16 night shifts per month
Blocked schedules preferred
No call
In‑house APP coverage overnight with neurointensivist support

Formal daily rounding
Overnight phone support available




Practice Details

Hospital-based Neuro ICU (closed unit)
24/7 APP coverage model
Neurointensivist-led service
EMR: Epic
Patient population: Adult Neuro ICU (18+)
Typical census: 10–20 patients (acuity‑based coverage)


Clinical Scope


Comprehensive neurocritical care management


Responsibilities include:

Admissions, daily rounding, and discharges
H&P, consult notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries
Ventilator and noninvasive ventilation management
Hemodynamic monitoring and critical care sedation
Neurologic exams, localization, and neuroimaging review



Neurocritical conditions include:

Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
Subarachnoid hemorrhage
Traumatic brain injury
Status epilepticus
Intracranial pressure management
Cardiac arrest and brain death evaluation



Procedures and skills:

Airway support (BVM, LMA)
NG tube placement/removal
Central and arterial lines (preferred)
Lumbar puncture (preferred)




Requirements

Physician Assistant – Neurocritical Care
Board Certified:

Adult‑Geriatric or Acute Care


Active Louisiana PA license required
DEA required
Louisiana CSR required
Certifications required:

ACLS
BLS
ENLS


Minimum 1 year Neuro ICU or critical care experience required
Trauma Level I experience required

Provider questionnaire required at submission
NPDB self‑query (within 6 months) required
Full malpractice disclosure required
Clean credentialing file strongly preferred

Credentialing

Full hospital credentialing required
Provider must be fully cleared prior to start
Temporary privileges not guaranteed
Committee and board approval required
