Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (Juvenile Services)

Role Overview
Gallant Business Solutions is seeking a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor to support the Maryland
Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) within secure juvenile detention facilities serving Baltimore and
surrounding areas.
This role provides substance use screening, assessment, documentation, and psychoeducational
services for justice-involved youth. The counselor will play a critical role in identifying substance-related
risks, supporting treatment planning, and coordinating care within a multidisciplinary clinical
environment.
This is a temp-to-permanent opportunity, with a strong expectation of conversion to permanent
employment after approximately five (5) months, based on performance and program needs.

Key Responsibilities
• Review and interpret SASSI-A2 screening results within 24 hours of intake
• Re-administer SASSI-A2 when screenings are invalid, refused, or incomplete, within the required
timelines
• Complete substance abuse screening notes and document all clinical contact in the youth’s
record
• Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments when indicated
• Prepare biopsychosocial reports in compliance with Department-approved formats
• Document treatment recommendations and communicate findings to case managers to support
care coordination
• Facilitate weekly psychoeducational groups focused on substance use education and prevention
• Participate in scheduled clinical and interdisciplinary team meetings
• Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinical operations

Required Education & Licensure
• Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
• Active Maryland LCADC license in good standing

Required Experience & Competencies
• Minimum 3 years of counseling experience
• Experience working with children and adolescents
• Prior experience in juvenile justice, detention, residential, or secure treatment settings strongly
preferred
• Knowledge of adolescent substance use patterns, screening tools, and intervention strategies
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and co-occurring conditions
• Strong documentation, organization, and follow-through skills
• Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and Microsoft Office
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Reliable transportation required
