Adult Psychiatrist – State Hospital (Near San Antonio, TX)

Location: Near San Antonio
Start Date: ASAP
Assignment Length: Minimum 3 months (with extension option)

Position Overview

We are seeking an Adult Psychiatrist for a forensic state hospital setting. This role offers a unique hybrid schedule with both onsite and telepsychiatry components, and no call requirements.

Schedule

Full-time options:

Monday–Friday (8-hour days), or

Monday–Thursday (10-hour days)

Hybrid model: 1 week onsite / 3 weeks telehealth

No call required

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care and psychiatric treatment

Conduct psychiatric assessments and face-to-face evaluations

Manage adult patients with dual diagnoses

Work in a residential forensic setting (not outpatient)

Facility Details

Forensic state hospital (standard state hospital environment)

300-bed facility across 10 units

Current census: 155 patients (7 active units)

Average caseload: 24 patients

Average length of stay: 1000+ days

EMR: Avatar

State hospitals will be contacted for references

Team Structure

4 full-time Psychiatrists (primarily telehealth)

5 APRNs on staff

Requirements

Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry

Active Texas license (or ability to obtain)

Prior state hospital experience required
