Telehealth quality: What the evidence says
A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis published in MDPI examined five years of telehealth implementation data, and the conclusions are clear: clinical outcomes via telehealth are generally comparable to in-person care. Telehealth showed particular strength in chronic disease management, with improved outcomes in hypertension and diabetes, including reduced hospitalizations for heart failure patients. Safety was also demonstrated in surgical follow-up and prenatal care settings. Patient satisfaction remained consistently high throughout the review period, especially among rural and underserved populations who face the greatest barriers to specialty access.

Rural healthcare transformation update
The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) is a federal investment in rural health, directing $50 billion toward promoting rural health innovation, strategic partnerships, infrastructure development and workforce investment. Authorized by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025 and administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the program allocates $10 billion annually from 2026 through 2030. States have begun taking steps to implement RHTP activities, with several like Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Virginia and West Virginia hiring new staff to support planning and program execution. Recent awards announced in August 2026 support improvements in mental health, substance abuse, emergency care and healthcare workforce expansion across multiple states. Technology innovation is a central goal, with all 50 states including health technology initiatives in their RHTP plans to expand access to telehealth, chronic disease management solutions and digital infrastructure in rural areas.
