Cardiac ICU / ACCU APP (NP/PA) – Locum Tenens
Location: Dallas, TX
Start: August
Schedule: Night shifts (13 hours)

Position Overview

Seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers (NP/PA) for a high-acuity cardiac program in Dallas, TX, supporting both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU). This nationally recognized program specializes in advanced pediatric cardiac care, including heart failure and transplantation.

Facility & Units

CICU (32 beds):

* 20-bed Main CICU (highest acuity)
* 12-bed Intermediate Care Unit (step-down with increasing acuity)
* Advanced therapies: ECMO, CRRT, ventricular assist devices, mechanical circulatory support

ACCU (44 beds):

* High-acuity step-down unit supporting ICU transitions
* Collaborative model with APPs, residents, fellows, and attendings
* Three rounding teams:

* General Cardiology (Train & Star teams)
* Heart Failure/Transplant (Balloon team)

Patient Population

* Congenital and acquired cardiac conditions
* Pre- and post-operative cardiac surgery
* Pediatric heart failure and transplant patients
* Pulmonary hypertension and electrophysiology
* Advanced cardiac support (VADs, ECMO, etc.)

Practice Model

* Team includes APPs, fellows, residents (ACCU), and attendings
* CICU: No resident coverage; reports directly to attending
* ACCU: Collaborative model with residents and cardiology teams
* Night coverage: 3 providers (APPs/Fellows/Residents)
* Documentation focused on admissions, procedures, and significant events (CICU nights); daily notes required on ACCU

Acuity Highlights

* Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
* Ventilator/trach-dependent patients
* Inotropic infusions (Milrinone, Dopamine)
* Chest tubes and pacing wires
* Peritoneal dialysis

Skills & Procedures

Required:

* Chest tube, cardiac line, and pacing wire removal
* Surgical drain management

Preferred:

* Central and arterial line placement
* Chest tube insertion
* Intubation

---

Staffing Ratios

* CICU Nights: 3 providers covering both units
* ACCU Days: 6–7 patients per provider
* ACCU Nights: Up to 15 patients per provider (3 providers total)
