Sports Medicine Physician Assistant

Summary:
Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of Physician by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Bring charts, x-rays, and templates to OR and return to the office.
Review x-rays and check room for case specific instruments, supplies, and implants.
Position patient on OR table.
Apply tourniquet, compression stocking, and drape patient.
Hold retractors, manipulate limbs, and cauterize vessels, sponge and suction wound as necessary.
Skin closures.
Apply dressings, splints, immobilizers, slings, as directed.
Remove patient from OR table to stretcher for transport to recovery room.
Expedite room turnover. Assist with cleaning and prep for the next case.
Maintain privately owned instruments.
Prepare for upcoming surgeries and facilitate assistance or communicate to back-office staff if none can be arranged.
Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations, interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures as directed by the Supervising Physician.
Order, collect, and perform appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures, and studies.
Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and take calls for the orthopaedic surgeons.
Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, dictate discharge summaries, histories and physicals.
Evaluate and screen emergency room patients.
Provide sports team game coverage as needed.
Order, prescribe, dispense and administer medication, orthosis, orthotics, braces and other orthopaedic devices as may be allowed by state legislation.
Design, conduct and/or participate in research studies, manage databases, and perform quality assurance as directed by the supervising physician.
As a member of the NOC team, you may be asked to assist whenever or wherever there is a need.
Perform minor procedures such as wound care and joint injection as needed.
Shares in the Call Schedule with the Physicians.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Qualifications:
Orthopaedic solo or group practice experience preferred.
Must have Nebraska state Physician Assistant license.
