Job Title: Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Location: Virginia
Job Type: Locum Tenens Coverage
Coverage Needed: 1–2 Weeks per Month (Monday–Monday) | Ongoing through End of Year

Position Overview

Seeking Cardiothoracic Surgery Coverage in VA for a comprehensive cardiac surgery program. This opportunity includes a combination of clinic, hospital rounding, surgical days, and 24-hour call coverage. The call volume is light, with strong APP support in both the hospital and clinic settings.

Schedule & Coverage Details

Coverage blocks: 1–2 weeks per month (Monday–Monday)

Ongoing need through end of year

Hospital rounding: 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM daily (with APP support)

Clinic hours: Typically between 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Clinic generally 2–3 days per week

Surgery days on non-clinic days

24-hour call coverage (light call; APP support overnight and weekends)

Clinical Responsibilities

Perform a wide array of cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including:

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)

Aortic surgery

Valvular repair and replacement

Atrial fibrillation and left atrial appendage management

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)

Provide comprehensive pre- and post-operative patient care

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and advanced practice providers

Evaluate clinic patients (primarily post-operative visits) following APP workups

Practice Support

Multiple APPs in both clinic and hospital settings

APP on call overnight and weekends

EMR: Epic

Requirements

MD or DO from an accredited medical school

Completion of an accredited general surgery residency followed by cardiothoracic surgery residency OR completion of an integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency

Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery

Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license at time of presentation

Current unrestricted DEA

Must obtain AHA certifications

Proficiency in a full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgical procedures

Strong clinical, communication, and team collaboration skills
