Patients may show signs of chronic kidney disease before being diagnosed with diabetes

Researchers from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and the VA MidSouth Healthcare Network are reporting that some patients may actually show signs of chronic kidney disease before they are diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetic patients have a higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease as well as cardiovascular disease. Researchers suggest screening patients with higher risks of developing chronic kidney disease which includes having high blood pressure and a high body mass index.

Kidney cancer evolution shows severity of cancer

Three studies published in the journal, Cell have shown there are three types of kidney cancers that have different evolutionary paths. These paths dictate whether the cancer types are aggressive and spread quickly. One of the studies shows that kidney cancer can be triggered 40 to 50 years before it is even diagnosed. Researchers believe these studies can lead to more specialized kidney cancer treatments.
